In all countries we visited televisions are on the whole day, mostly very loud. Chinese fighting films, soaps, karaoke. Rarely we see a news braodcast being looked at.
Only in China, and a couple of times here in Vietnam, we’ve seen someone reading a newspaper. In Laos and Cambodia none, there we only saw some newspapers in the big cities, in hotels where westerners stay.
Internetplaces are almost everywhere. In China they are big halls with hundreds of computers, in other places they are mostly smalls "shops" with 10 or more computers. Most local customers are youngsters or small boys, playing silly violent and very noisy games. Never we’ve seen a local person looking for iformation on the internet.
How and which information do citizens in these countries get?
