Yarumel – Santa Rosa de Osos (alt. 2722)

50 kms. 767 vertical meters (I’m now sure that this must be more, but my gps gives this number). Magnificent route. The climbs were easy, never too steep. Very good road, little traffic. Beautiful mountain scenery, rolling green pastures all the time, small dairy farms, farmers with hats or caps on their heads and a pair of wellies on their feet, black and white, red and white and brown cows, 40 ltr milk containers along the road waiting for the truck that will pick them up and take them to the small dairy plant just before Santa Rosa. Stopped several times to discuss dairy-farming in Colombia.

Our last drink stop was at a small restaurant, not far from Santa Rosa. It was located next to the dairy plant just mentioned. The owner spoke English and he told us that he had worked for 10 years in a Italian restaurant in Boston USA. We had already noticed that his little restaurant was more nicely decorated than we are used to along the roads. There were even burning candles on the plastic tables. The dishes that were served to other people looked nicer than average. When we told him that we had noticed that he was very pleased of course. He offered us coffee from the house and when we left he didn’t want us to pay for the other consumptions either. He thanked us for visiting his place instead. We appreciate Colombia more and more. He adviced us a hotel in the centre of the not too big town, Cortejo Imperial. A bit posh, but worth the bit higher price. Wi-fi etc., even a jacuzzi! The central plaza is again a nice and busy gathering place for the locals.
