Santa Rosa de Osos – Medellin (alt. 1513)

82 kms. 630 vertical meters. Odo 2035 kms.
A very beautiful ride. We set off at 07.30 with 12˚C. First it was undulating. The scenery was very beautiful, and this was even emphasised by the low light of the morning sun. From Don Matias we dropped 1000 meters into the valley of Medellin. Until this valley it was very beautiful, in the valley there was a boring 20 km six lane road, undulating and surprisingly very hot. My Garmin showed 42˚C at a certain point.
When we reached the border of the town a biker adressed us and showed us a quieter regional road. It appeared to be the road we intended to take, we would not easily have found it ourselves. For bearly 10 kms we followed this busy road along the rio and the metro-line and more or less crossed the city (2.700.000 inhabitants) from north to south. When we almost had reached Metro station El Poblado another biker joined us and offered to guide us to the hostal we had in mind, in exchange for a soda. He didn’t exactly know where it was and he wanted some money instead of a drink. Nevertheless we found the Black Sheep Hostal where we have a spacious room with all facilities. A bit expensive, a lazy receptionist and a real backpackers gathering point. We haven’t seen anything of Medellin yet, we’ll see tomorrow.
