43 kms. Total ascent 800 mtrs. We had spent the night in the hotel at the gasstation in the narrow gorge just after Pescadero. From the start it went up to 1283 alt. after 16 kms. After that it was a mostly continuous descent to the big town. When we asked the way to the Kasa Guana, a backpackers hostel, we happened to run into some cyclists, who were now drinking beer. We were peresented a cold drink, very welcome in the heat, and it took us almost an hour to get on our machines again. Bucaramanga is a city composed of 3 or 4 suburbs and a wide centre part. It gives us an American expression, many big roads and quiet housing areas in between. Kasa Guana was fully booked, we found a hotel (Palonegro) in the neighbourhood, a pleasent area to be. A bit worn out, but not expensive and a nice garden. Very friendly and helpful receptionist. In the evening I had a big hamburger. I was prepared, I took the junior one, still an enormous heap of meat between the bread. A hamburger is not a thing I would usually eat, but this was the second best meal I had since we are in this country. It was really tasteful, and there was salad and tomato. The national cuisine is not my number one, I must say.This hamburger was better than any other hamburger I’ve ever seen in the world.
