Chiquinquira – Villa de Leyva (alt. 2155)

4 jan 2010. 50.9 kms, odo 213,8.Total ascent 395 mtrs, mostly downhill. Triptime 4.09. Temp 13 ˚C in the morning up to 32 in the afternoon.

Found our way out of town easily. During the ride we changed to a Mediterrenean climate, hot and dry. In a bar along the way we met 3 elderly men who were drinking beer plus something stronger. Señor Puin, a big man with a big hat, as many men wear here with obvious reasons (burning sun!), found the climate here the best in the world. He owns a small enterprise that produces medical equipment. We had a nice conversation and exchanged our cards. Of course we should call him if we needed anything etc. etc. When we left they insisted to pay for our drinks. More and more we get convinced that the average Colombian is an agreeable person.

In the early afternoon we reached Villa de Leyva. This small town is a national monument and it has been restored into the colonial town that it originally was. Low houses, cobblestone streets that are difficult to walk on and a large cobblestone square. Very nice, very touristic.

We settled in at Hospederia Colonial, a historic house with nice low rooms around a garden, clean, quiet, beautiful, hot water etc. We decided to stay an extra day here.
