Old teachers never……..

In the Bali-museum we encoutered a group of secondary school students (age app. 17)  who showed a great interest in us. We spent at least half an hour discussing things (often with hands and feet) and in the end the all wanted a photograph and a handshake. Very nice experience for us. But even more: in Bangli we had found a " restaurant", and while deciding what to eat a man came up to us and offered help. A long conversation followed, he appeared to be 27 years old and said that he owned 3 schools (English courses and personal development) and also 4 mini-markets. A very entrepeneurlike young guy! In the end he invited us to come to one of his schools. He went for his car, in the mean time paying our bill, and returned in a brand new small Honda. Then we drove to his " school". It consisted of some low small buildings and in one of the rooms a lesson was going on. We were explained that young people don’t learn English very well in public school. So they come to private ones in the evening. During my European work I have seen more of the kind. We were introduced to the class (the teacher appeared to be the owner of the garden we had visited before, they all take up all kinds of initiatives to improve their standard of living). We had a nice discussion, lots of quuestions were asked and we spent over an hour in the classroom. It’s so nice to see that all over the world young people are so eager to learn, and nice for us to deliver a small contribution.

Watch the cap in the middle.
