Here we go again.

Dear friends, here we are back again. Some of you may remember I promised to come and see you by bike after my retirement. After Eveline and I made our great biketrip through Thailand and Laos earlier this year we made some more smaller (4 and 5 days)tours here in Europe. We already payed a visit to Werner and his wife Ellen in Ibbenbüren(Germany). We spent a nice afternoon and evening in their house, Gerhard and his wife Gudrun were there as well, we spent the night there and I had to start the next day with some aspirins. It was just as if we were working on a project 🙂

Now I will be off for a bigger one:
I will leave home next Wed, Aug 16. Tent on bike. I will travel east to the river Rhine,
which I will follow upstream towards Basel in Switzerland. There I will
continue, using 3 different cycle routes and reach Martigny. If I
succeed so far I will have travelled through relatively flat areas all
the time. But then I’ll have to cross the Grand Saint Bernard. I hope to
do it by bike. But the weather, my condition or other circumstances could cause me to do it by bus or something like that. After having
crossed the pass it’ll be 2 days towards Torino at the most. There I hope to meet my friend Gino. If nothing goes wrong I should reach Torino
at Aug. 30th at the latest. I planned to stay just for 2 or 3 days. Then
I’ll continue my trip through the Susa valley towards France, acrosse the Mont Genèvre pass. It’ll probably take me a week to reach the little village of Lunas (north of Beziérs), where two of my former neighbours live. I hope to stay with them for a couple af days. Then I’ll ride up to the Rhône river again and continue my way up north along the Rhône, Saône, the plateau of the Meuse towards Luxemburg and Breda. Hope to be back home somewhere end of September. At least two persons will be happy then, I expect.
I hope to report during my trip on this blog:
it’s a sort of  contemplation, reflections on my experiences. I hope to receive your reactions of course. I’m not sure if I’ll cross so many opportunities to go on the internet, so I’ve no idea of how many entries will be made.
Enjoy yourselves and I hope to be in touch often enough.

  1. Hi Frans,
Quite some excitement, cycling all the way to Torino. You’re a man with great energy, considering your age. I wish you a very good and nice trip and please give my regards to Gino.
    Good luck!
