Tirta Gangga

After Candi Dasa we cycled up the flanks of the volcano towards the water palace of Tirta Gangga. This is a garden with a system of ponds, fountains, swimming pools decorated with Balinese sculptures. It was built in the 1920’s by a regional royal (sultan or Raja). In the compound there is a hotel. We arrived there before noon and decided to stay there, although it was the most expensive hotel we ver had during this trip. For the 2 of us, incl. breakfast and taxes it was just under 40 Euros. But we decided it was worthwhile: we stayed inside the water palace, we had a wonderful view over it and over the mountain slope towards the sea (at 20 kms) and the bungalow was luxurious, in the garden, a large double bed, aircon, a large bathroom, partially open to the air and with the shower coming from a Hindu-statue. During dinner it again appeared that we were the only guests, and we had the balcony table for our own. Bali really is a beautiful and romantic island.
